A Slice of Heaven in North Carolina

One of my favorite places in North Carolina and also one of my favorite places ever, is Sunset Beach. Everyone has a place that is near and dear to their heart and Sunset Beach is that for me. Sunset Beach is located on the south tip on the coast of North Carolina before you get to South Carolina.

One reason why Sunset Beach is so special to me, is because it was a special place to my Nana. She always loved walking on the beach picking up seashells, relaxing and listening to the ocean and going to Ella’s Seafood Hut. When she passed away at the beginning of last year, after her funeral, our entire extended family spent the afternoon playing games and enjoying each other's company on the beach, exactly what she would have wanted.

Another reason why I love Sunset Beach is how natural and non commercialized it is. Some beaches have so many stores and restaurants on the island, but sunset beach only has one convenient store with a deli, Sunset Slush, and the pier grill. Then there is Calabash which is a small town off of the island. Calabash has multiple seafood restaurants with amazing food as the town is well-known for their Calabash style fried shrimp. There is also Tony’s Pizza with the best pizza and a bagel shop we go to for breakfast. When we stay at Sunset beach we always make sure to hit up the restaurants and shops in Calabash.

I have so many memories here at Sunset Beach and it will always be a special place to go to with my family and one day when I have a family of my own.
